Clara Mann – News From Home
Clara Mann has announced her second album, Wishbone, out October 23 on The state51 Conspiracy, and shared its lead single “News From Home”. The South London songwriter’s 2025 debut Rift sat in one strange, isolated shade of blue; Wishbone works the opposite way, built on contrast, with the brightest passages made legible by the surrounding shadow. “News From Home” is a good introduction to that: a cycling acoustic motif, slightly haunting percussion and a shimmery synth, all pitched somewhere between an old country song and something more open.
Mann describes the track as a thread between a once-home landscape and her real, adult life, the experience of standing in her hometown and holding two things at once: that this place used to be her whole world, and that she now has a big, wide life of her own to get back to. What she catches is how putting those side by side makes each one stranger and more beautiful. She’s talked about writing toward big open skies and walking the hills at golden hour, and the song carries that glow without tipping into nostalgia for its own sake.
The album was produced by 4AD resident Fabian Prynn, built out from Mann’s demos and voice notes across long, sometimes fourteen-hour days at Bam Bam Studios in Norfolk. She’s said hearing the songs expanded like this was new to her, since the purest version of a lot of this music had always been her alone in a big hall.
